Frederick Half-Mile, Non-National Half-Mile
Another non-national experience getter! This was even better than Parkersburg. I was in the first heat with Jared Mees and Sammy Halbert. I passed Jared early on, but he got me back before the finish. Final finishing order was Halbert first, Mees second and me third.
In the Main I got into fourth behind Jared and was comfortable there. After a lap or two, I knew I could pass him. I was riding a line that brought me in kind of high, but then was exiting tight. It really helped because of the loose cushion surface, I was not getting sprayed by the other riders! I remember actually thinking, “Use your head Luke! No need to do something stupid to pass him.”
Slowly I caught up to him until I got by him several laps before the checkers flew. He never made a try to come back after me. Halbert won, Wiles was second and I got third with Jared fourth. I was really happy with these results I have to say.
I chatted with Skip after the race and he was happy with my efforts and how hard I constantly tried. I hope that Skip gives me an opportunity to fill out this ride for the rest of the year! I will keep you all posted on this!
